We are LINGUISTS!

At Thorndon Primary we aim to promote confidence, curiosity and enjoyment in learning Spanish. We do this by developing childrens’ ability to communicate in both spoken and written Spanish for practical purposes and for fun.

Languages is taught by Spanish speaking specialist and we aim to enable children to speak and write Spanish with increasing confidence, demonstrating progress across Key Stage 2. Our aim is also to develop and foster an understanding and appreciation of Spanish-speaking cultures and their similarities and differences to our own.

In addition, we want to equip all children with language skills, which will provide a foundation to further progress in learning Spanish and other languages at secondary school.

We believe that learning a language enables children to deepen their knowledge and understanding of other countries and cultures. Spanish is widely spoken throughout the world by many different cultures and studying Spanish gives children an opportunity to make links between other languages and cultures and their own.

In an increasingly global society, being able to communicate in more than one language will benefit all children and will widen their opportunities by equipping them to study and work in other countries in the future.
