We are THINKERS!
At Thorndon Primary, through out teaching of the main world's religions, we want to equip children with the knowledge, skills and understanding to be able to question, challenge, learn about the purpose of life, issues of right and wrong and what it means to them as a person living in the 21st century.
Through exploring and learning about other faiths and religions, children grow up understanding the diversity of their community, the UK and the world in which they live. Through RE, they learn about 'British Values', awareness, respect and tolerance for others.
As a Church of England primary school, we have a strong partnership with our neighbour, All Saints Church and the Reverand takes weekly assemblies and we enjoy the Open the Book assmeblies too.
At Thordon Primary School we use the Emmanuel Project to teach the required Learning Themes in the Suffolk Agreed Syllabus for RE.
The Emmanuel Project and Suffolk Agreed Syllabus aims to ensure all children:
- Develop knowledge and understanding of the principal religions and world views represented in the United Kingdom.
- Develop understanding of the ways in which beliefs influence people's behaviour and practices.
- Learn to develop and express their own views, and to agree or disagree respectfully.
- Recognise the right of people to hold diverse beliefs and values, and to develop positive attitudes of respect towards other people.
- Develop a range of views, so they have well thought through opinions and attitudes.
- Widen the world view of our local area by developing community cohesion through looking at our multicultural society in the local, national and world community.

- Beliefs and Questions
- Journey of Life and Death.
Each of the Learning Themes is covered in depth for Christianity and a variety are then repeated for the other religions as specified at each key stage. Learning Themes are not specified for Early Years.
